Project Evaluation & Recommendations
Most authors who are getting rejections from agents or publishers do not get explanatory letters telling them why the agent or publisher didn't like it or what went wrong with it. The note usually says "...much to admire but not right for me." or "...much to admire but I did not have the level of enthusiasm necessary ..." Laurie reads and evaluates your manuscript and/or proposal from the publishers' point of view, figuring out what is preventing agents or publishers from taking the book, and what the author can do to fix that.
Laurie can help you from the beginning when you just have the idea and don't know where to start, or she can come in after you're written and submitted your material to agents or publisher--if you aren't getting anywhere and are stuck.
Laurie can also help you if you are at a point where you don't know how to advance your publishing career or are not reaching your goals. She will help you figure out the changes to make and the best options available to you.
Authors grow and change as they publish more books, and publishing as an industry changes. The savvy author directs his or her own path to maximize growth, income, and opportunity. Laurie is the right-hand adviser to many authors over the years of their career.
Without Laurie I'd still be aspiring instead of published. Within 6 months of our first meeting I had a shining proposal, a go-getter agent, and a great book deal. Laurie knows the author biz!

Having known and worked with Laurie for nearly two decades – as attorney, as a client of her agency, and, most recently, as someone who has referred clients to Author Biz, I can make the following observations:
- Laurie Harper’s honesty and integrity are indicative of the highest and best the publishing industry has to offer.
- Laurie is a no-nonsense type who cuts through extraneous matters and gets to the heart of what you as an author need most: professionalism, competence, and common sense.
- She makes no false promises – what you see is exactly what you get. She invariably delivers on her commitment.I wholeheartedly recommend Laurie to anyone who is serious about wanting to become a legitimate published author.”
